fuel pressure

I've run into a slight snag, i'm attempting to use the fuel pump in the system which puta out about 40lbs, I ran that thru a single inletfuel filter with a dual outlet, one i returned to the tank, the other I ran thru a dial type adjustable regulator, there is pressure before the reg. but nothing on the out, I also tryed in on the reg before the filter, no change, pretty much tells me the reg is not working. My question is how much pressure ca a regulator handle going in. I was thinking that possibly the 40lb could be pusing the diaphram against the stop. Any ideas? Would a jdm with the vacumn set up work any better I'm not really familiar with the vacumn setup.

Are you running a carb or FI? If carb then run the fuel out of the tank to the fuel filter with a single in and out then to a regulator that determines what goes back to the tank and what goes to the engine by means of vaccuum and/or what you have the regulator set to. If it is FI then run it as how it is suppose to be from the factory i.e factory setup.

Check to see what the fuel pressure is if possible, dont assume that it is putting out the appropriate pressure.

Is this on a 5.0 or another type of enigne? What is your engine setup?

If you have a return line plumbed before the regulator, I would say this is why you're getting no pressure- path of least resistance is straight back to the tank.
