Fuel pressure Regulator flow direction?

In the process of replacing fuel lines I think I may have mixed matched fittings to the fuel rail. I can’t find any fuel flow schematics online and I just want to confirm the flow direction to and from the Fuel pressure regulator.

Does the incoming flow from pump, to Filter go straight into the fuel rail or into the regulator?

I couldn’t find anything on fuel pressure regulator floe direction.

Flow goes through pump/filter into the regulator. Then into the rail, while the excess goes through the return line also hooked to FPR

My fuel rail has 2 ports, one to seat the regulator directly to the fuel rail with ORing and one port that is open and not connected to the Regulator.
Your saying the excess is also connected to the FPR?

I found this pic that might help clarify.
So #1 should be Inlet from fuel filter and #2 is Return excess?

My bad i misspoke.

1- is fuel in

2- return

Ok
That’s what I thought. I have a new regulator that I just put in with the new fuel lines.
I’m getting pressure up to the regulator but it’s not opening the regulator to allow it into the fuel rail.
So there’s pressure release when I remove the inlet hose into the regulator but theres 0 pressure on the fuel rail.
Maybe there is still air in the line so it’s not enough pressure to open the FPR to allow it into the rail.

With 1985 thru 1997 the FPR on the engine has the RETURN fuel line connected

The fuel rail has the IN from pump/Filter connected

Gas tank>>>Pump/filter>>>(35psi)>>>fuel rail/injectors>(35psi)>FPR>>(0psi)>>>gas tank

1998 and up Rangers have the FPR in the gas tank, on the pump assembly, no Return line at the engine end, just FYI

So in case it was missed... 2 is the inlet and 1 is the return.

The regulator is at the end of the high pressure side of the system.

That would be exactly why you have no fuel on the rail.

Ok makes sense. Mine is an 88’ and I must have mixed matched the fuel line fittings when I took everything apart.
Thanks for the insight!
