Hey Guys,

I am swapping out my 3.0L for a SBF, and I have a question for the seasoned vets here.

Should I use the Tank/Pump/Lines that are existing and install a regulator,

OR

install a small pick up tube, use the existing tank, and install an external pump with lines and filter

OR

remove it all, install a fuel cell with pump, filter, lines etc?

thanks all in advance.

That's all on your tastes. If you'd like to see what others have done search through peoples build up threads.
I personally used the stock tank, swapped the elec sending unit out for a earlier unit without the pump then installed a low psi pump on the frame. Where the stock pump was. I'm also running a regulator set at 5 about 18" from the carb.

Thanks for the reply!,

I was wondering where you found the older pump/pickup?

I would prefer to run an external pump (holley makes a nice one for example) with internal regulator. I am running a carb too for the recod.

thanks

If you are running efi then the in tank fuel pump will work fine, if running carb thin swop out the pump for a 87 in tank unit (low pressure pump) and that will work fine. If running carb and are on a very tite budget then use a "t" and use the intank pumpwith the pressure line and returnconected with the "t" and attach the carb

probbly not , 87 is a steel tank that holds about 14 gallons , 94 is larger and plastic. I meant to use the pump only and not the whole sending unit.

ok, I think I understand, pull the unit out, and change the pump, and reuse the lines, sending unit, etc..?

sorry it sounds dumb but haven't played with this before.

If you don"t use the return line it will need to be pluged / or caped at the sendind unite

I just went through this with my build but I went the other direction . I'm using everything and installing a regulator with a bypass ( return ). I was talking to a mech. at the shop and he was telling me that you need to make sure you use a regulator that can handle the high pressure fuel pump (40psi) in my case. Anyhow none of this may apply to your build but I figured I would put my 2 cents in. Cost wise , the holly regulator with mounting bracket was 80 bucks. Good luck

My girl becca has a 87 with a 5.0 carbed that has ran off the low pressure in tank pump for over ayear no problem. I also know of a s10 that is running a crbed 350 off of the high pressure in tank pump with the pressure line and the retun line "t"ed togather at the carb, its been running that way for 4 years .
