Hello everyone.
It has been a while since I was last here. I own a 98 3.0L ranger xlt flare-side, it currently has 248,000 miles on her. Engine & A/T are running strong. Poor thing has cancer though. After I changed jobs a few years back, I bought a more Eco-friendly 4-cylinder Mazda. So the Ranger sits in my yard most of the week. In fact I have only been using it to bring the trash to the dump and picking up loads of wood,etc..
So last week I went to fill 'er up with fuel and noticed the fuel spilling onto the ground!
Its coming right out the filler neck!
So where do you guys think is the best place to get a replacement part?
Is it a tough DIY job?
Should I get new or used?
Hoping I get some recommendations. Thanks in advance!

yeah , but...for some odd reason, a Fuel Filler Neck for a 98 Ranger Flare-side, 126 inch wheel base, 4WD, is almost impossible to find. I found one online for $222.
I call my local Ford Dealer, and again I was floored!....cost: $320 List: $421 !!!
WHY!?
Will a style-side work? Can I make it work?

Just done this on my 97 Ranger. It has the wheel wells in the bed. Forget which bed style that is. Had hip surgery monday so my mind isn't all there. lol. However i had to replace my fuel tank straps. So in that process i found the filler neck was shot. I tried myself and for me it was a major pain because again with a bad hip trying to lay under the truck didn't work well. Finally let me mechanic do it.

I found one at a local yard for $20. Think it may have been $25. Either way it was right around there. So maybe check there.

I found it on www.car-part.com

also check www.rockauto.com

Rock Auto is great. Amazing service. Not to mention good prices on most stuff. I saved my brother almost $60 on a radiator for a 06 Hyundai Elantra. I hate his car but it's his money. :icon_rofl: Anywho hope that might help you out. I know some will say go new but i trust this local yard. My mechanic has bought from them and he has been in the business 20+ years so he knows every yard in town and who to go to and not to go to. I will say if you go used. Around the top of the filler neck where you stick the nozel in. I covered the opening with a rag and hit it with spray on under coating just to seal it up. Probably wasn't needed but i figured i had some left from the straps so why not play it safe.

I took your advice and went down to my local yard here in Massachusetts.
I was able to get a filler neck in GOOD, condition. Its solid enough. I'll clean it up and spray some Rustoleum or something similar on it before I install. I was going to pull off the old one and compare them side by side to make certain they are close enough to the same length.
I may have to modify the it so it fits. I pulled the part off a Style-Side. Mine is a Flare-Side.
As always...Time will tell.

Glad i could help in my surgical drug induced haze. :icon_rofl: I will warn you it can be a royal PITA to get the clamp on the filler neck at the tank off. Between me and my cousin we finally got mad and took tin snips and a mini hacksaw and cut the clamp. Figured a new clamp was $1.50 well spent. Good luck to you and hope it works out for you.
