big howdy youall...i've been looking for a good 302 4bbl engine with no luck. i was wondering .....if i took a later model ( 90's ) engine and converted to a 4bbl....what all would i need to complete the conversion ?. / what all would have to be changed...im not looking to build a ground pounder, just wanting to chirp a gear now and again....big thanky for your knowledge:yahoo:

You are gonna need the intake for the carb'd version.

You'll need a carb (duh) and a front cover too. The carb and fuelie front covers are different. Mainly the carbed cover has a provision for the mechanical fuel pump. If you were originally FI you could probably pull the HP pump and use the lift pump and FI front cover on the 5.0. It'd be just as easy to get a carbed front cover and use a mechanical pump though. Replacing mechanical pumps is like getting my last g/f into bed, cheap and easy.

In 95+% of the cases, a mechanical pump will not fit. Best to just use a low pressure pump.

Didn't know that. Everyone I've ever seen put a 5.0 in a ranger went EFI.

Good info.

Where are you located? I have a 302 with a 4bbl intake for sale, in south dakota

would it be easier to change to throttle body injection???? Just curious?

well, if you have a 2.9 its actually easiest to got EFI. The only real difference between a 2.9 harness and an early 5.0 EFI harness is 2 extra injector plugs. TBI isn't too hard though.

yeah i know a guy who has a mazda b2600i and it had EFI but something went south and he went to throttle body. If i had a choice i would go with EFI but thats just my preference.....

same here. I've had EFI, I've had carb. I'll take EFI over carb any day. Now if only my battery would stop dying.

TBI is fine but to my knowledge there are no performance parts for it, plus Ford TBI stuff seems to be getting pretty rare. There are also disadvantages to TBI in an offroad vehicle too (fuel can pool up in the intake manifold)

ya i just got a new truck that is fuel injected and unless its a wheeler or i have absolutley no other choices i plan on staying fuel injected...
