I've got a 1988 Ford Ranger STX. The fuel gauge apperantly has a mind of its own, I've filled my truck up 2 times, both times the gauge read 1/4 tank when i filled it up. After fueling up, I crank up and the needle doesn't work at all. Its been doing it ever since I got it about 3 weeks ago. It works when it wants to. Any suggestions?

some things to check

I had the same issue on my 91 ranger. Here is what i did to determine where the problem was.
I cut the sensor wire (mine was yellow) at the frame. I took the the end going to the gauge and grounded it to the frame. When you turn on the ignition, the gauge should register full. If it does, your problem is from there back. Probably the sending unit. If it does not, then you either have a break, or the gauge is bad.
