Fuel Gauge issue or?

I picked up another Bronco deuce a couple weeks ago and its got me a little baffled. The other i just got is an 85 Eddie Bauer edition with the 2.8 and a 5 speed. Question is, is my Fuel gauge not working properly or does it have a smaller tank then my 84 with the same motor and trans? I can put $40 in my 84 from an eighth and it gives it about 3/4 of a tank. I can fill the 85 EB from an eighth of a tank for about $30...

i think the tanks are the same size throughout all models and years, its 23 gallons

I'm pretty sure that all the tanks are the same size like Lukas said.
It sounds to me like you have a gauge problem. It could be an issue with the sending unit.(more likely by your description).
If you search a little on this forum, you'll find alot of info on what/ how to check it out. These BII's are notoriuose for that problem.
Note: I would do the sending unit access door modification, if I were you. I've done it myself, and am very glad I did.

Run it empty and see how many gallons it takes to fill it up I cant remember how many gallons my 83 ranger holds but the dollar amount is not important. But usually $30 will fill it when the guage is close to E and get around 200 miles per tank. I am thinking 12.5 gal tank but again not sure.

The only replacement tanks available in the LMC catalogue show 84-90 tanks being 23 gal. It's the only size I've seen anywhere. There are at least 2 different tanks, and I believe the difference is in the locking ring hole for the sending unit. There are three different sending unites available depending on year.
I get around 2 hundred miles to a tank, but try not to go below 1/8 on my gauge, which I do not believe reads acurately. I replaced the sending unit and pump with new, and am now convinced the voltage stabilizer is my problem. I have a new aftermarket replacement, but haven't put it on yet due to other BII projects that have higher priority.

Thanks for the responses, I looked up how to do the sending unit inspection port mod and I'll have to start digging into it when i get the time. I have way too many projects going on at the moment lol. Also I'll have to climb underneath both of them and compare tanks size-wise. I'm thinking somebody in its past might have swapped in a smaller ranger tank into it but that's just a shot in the dark. If it is the sending unit giving me hassles and worst case i gotta replace it that is going to suck considering how hard they are to come by

If you do not have a LMC truck- Ranger/BroncoII catalogue, go to their websight and get it. It carries alot of the BII's parts, including the sending units ('85 BII #50-3121, $99.95, '84 BII #50-3120, $44.95) and pumps, ect you may need. (It's also a pretty good referance for ID'ing parts, and cross referanceing to rangers, for spares.) Past catalogues also had first gen Explorer parts, but I see they seperated the Ex stuff, since it is duplicated in their explorer catalugue (you may want to get, as well).

I believe the bronco graveyard catalogue carries those parts as well, but not as much other stuff. I wouldn't bother trying to get a sending unit from a salvage yard. It would be likely just as worn out.
