I just bought an '02 Ranger to replace my '88 Ranger and am just getting to know the 16V 2.3L motor. As part of a general tune-up and maintenance bench mark, I want to replace the fuel filter and can't seem to get the doggone fuel lines off. They're not like the old duck-bill type retaining clips. I've tried the little tool for releasing the spring-lock type and that doesn't seem to work either. Any body else have trouble with these things, or have I been driving an old truck for so long that I'm completely unaware of how the new things work.

make sure you have the right size of removal tool for the spring clips.

aside from that, they can be a tight fit (they DO hold 60PSI of pressure after all). just get the tool in there and pull hard on the line (dont break those lines, they arent cheap).

Try disabling the fuel system and release the fuel pressure first. May help.

i ripped them apart and replaced with the original screw in clamps, much easier

youve got to go down to the parts store to get one anyway...why not just find out then? :dunno:
