I’m preparing to install a new fuel filter in my son’s 2003 Ford Ranger with the 4.0L SOHC V6. The original filter lines have been cut, so I’m wanting to make sure that I plumb the new filter correctly. One side of the filter has 2 fittings (5/16 & 3/8). Which one is meant for the inlet/pressure line and which is the return line?

Pretty sure it’s 5/16” pressure and 3/8” return, I just replaced the lines on mine not too long ago

Before seeing your reply, I found this post on another Ranger forum (see image below).
I also found some information that referred to 5/16" fuel connectors as return and 3/8" for pressure.

This just adds to my confusion. How confident are you in your response?

I've never had to touch this particular setup, but really old stuff I've touched general rule was the larger is supply, the smaller is return.

Confirmed with the Ford dealer. 3/8=Supply, 5/16=Return,
Thanks so much!

Sorry, thought I had it right… it has been 6 months roughly since I had it apart, lol
