So i decided that the wheel bearing on the front left of my 99 4X4 was going out. It would squeak when i turned left even the slightest amount, sometimes while i was driving straight, and it would stop when i tapped on the brakes. It still squeaked when the hubs were locked or free. (they are Rugged Ridge) The tire still felt tight when i would jack up the truck and try to wiggle it but i went ahead and replaced the Hub Assembly because the squeak was driving me insane. i got done and the tire has about 1/16 of an inch of play when pushing on the top of it now and the squeak is still there. Did I do something wrong??? Is there something else that could be causeing the squeak and now the tire wobble???
Thanks for any input

check you rotors and pads. Rotors may be warped and or pads are wore out. or caliper is sticking.

If the wheel wobbles after you have changed a cartridge bearing assembly, whatever applies preload to the bearings has not been tightened to spec. I'm not familiar with your setup but on solid driveshaft front ends it would be the driveshaft nut. regarding the squeek, If not caused by the brakes if might be the hubs.

The brakes may be glazed. Also, try and tighten the Axle nut if you still have play.

Alot of times the bushings lose grease whether busted or old. This makes my expedtion squeek real loud. Problem is after 96 i think they are all made to be "maintenance free" which means on top of being stupid they must be replaced instead of filled with grease. however you can drill them and add your own zirk fittings.

yeah, check your control arm bushings for the squeek (shoot some whit lithium grease into them) and also your ball joints. does it make the noise all the time or only on bumpy roads?

after re-reading your post, check your brake hardware, specifically the stamped stainless guides that clip into your caliper bracket. there is supposed to be a portion that keeps pressure on the pads and if it looses tension it can cause the pad to rattle or squeek and it would explain why it stops when you apply the brakes.

it makes noise all of the time, im more worried about why the tire can wobble now though. The ball joints arent bad, the Mechanic that got me the hub told me the only other thing would be the bearing is bad. Im gonna take it off and get another one and see if the wobble goes away, and then track down the squeak.
Thanks

If the wheel is wobbling its not properly tightened. And I don't mean the lug nuts. You need to pop the tire back off and tighten the actually wheel nut to spec. If the bearings are bad enough to play 1/16 of a inch even with everything tightened to spec. Bearings and races are probably done.

Pretty easy job to do on my 92 takes about 20 minutes. Mine are fairly open all the grease that I put in them slowly spins out into the manual 4x4 hub so every few months I take them apart and put it all back. So I've done it a few times.

His wheel bearing set up is completely different than on your 92. He has a wheel hub assembly that is non serviceable.
