I'm replacing my front wheel bearings...new rotors, pads & bearings.

When I went to the parts house, for new inner seals, they offered two types..

Boretite vs. Non Boretite...

They both seem to fit...what's a Boretite seal?

FYI, it's a 85 Ranger 2.3L 2wd

I must be really thick headed...I still don't get it..

It's a coating? I saw the green coating on the Boretite's at they shop...But it had a flatter, wider lip that would seat on the end of the hub...

Are you implying that they're interchangeable?

I had that feeling...thanks!

The guy at the counter told me you need to know which one you have...

I dunno...I haven't taken the old stuff off.

FedEx will bring my pads tomorrow, and I'm going to dive in...

Still trying to understand these Ford caliper retaining pins?

It really doesn't matter. The boretite coating allegedly seals better to the rotor.

Lube them before installation. If it's like my old '91, the meeting of the caliper to the bracket will leave a squarish hole. The pin (metal outside, rubber inside, right?) goes in the hole. Might have to squeeze the end and tap in with a hammer. The hump at each end of the pin will keep it in place.

I believe LMGTFY = Let Me Get That For You. Maybe something else fits, but that's my best guess.

Yep, it's some squarish looking thing...

I didn't know about a rubber thing inside...book says to replace with each removal.

Found these...

It's probably best practice to replace those rubber/metal strips but I never have. BUT they can be installed upside down and then will work loose....don't ask how I know.

LMGTFY = Let Me Google That For You.

It implies that someone should have just fed it into Google themselves, instead of asking others.

A cruder method is to link them to www.justf*ckinggoogleit.com (without the star, as the language filters here don't like that word)

Hmmn didn't know that. They looked idiot proof to me. When I had the caliper off recently I re-used them. :D

They're cheap enough things to replace, and this truck has been so neglected by the two PO's, I'm happy to do so...just cheap insurance.

Didn't know that there's a wrong way to install them...I'll be sure to watch out for that...

Just waiting on the FedEx guy, for my pads now.
