Looking at the front of an '03 Ranger...it has the headlights, and it has the side lights. Are those side lights (the ones on the corners of the front) supposed to blink as turn signals?

Yes they do, as they tell people to the side of you that you want to turn or what have you.

I retract that statement; they do not flash with the turns, my apologies as I was really tired last night.

those are your running lights, if they blink you have short in your system or a bad ground

Thanks for the responses on this. Man does this issue cause confusion. Before I saw flyingbrick's retraction, I asked the dealer to fix those front signals before we closed the deal on this '03 Ranger I was looking at. My mechanic had said they should blink too. The dealer (a small used car place) looked at it and said they aren't supposed to blink. I called the local Ford dealer and asked and they said they should. I then looked up here and saw flyingbrick's retraction. I then saw a mid-00's explorer with the same front end (roughly) and its corner lights weren't blinking either.

I'm going to take flyingbrick's and gotmudd's word for it and presume they shouldn't blink. That said, I would think it would make sense for them to blink since they would be more visible than the more-inset ones that do blink, but Ford didn't ask me.

Yeah sorry about that again i was tired and one would think they should blink with the turns and if you wanted you could make them should not take too much.

flashing side marker answer

while checking out another site I found a modification for making the front side markers blink with the turn signals. bleow are two different links do to this mod.

Daniel Sterns version

and a how to thread on the Ranger forums

I am thinking about doing this mod myself.

Thanks for the links. I think I may try that mod so that these do blink. It just makes more sense.

By the way, does anyone know what year the side markers stopped working as turn signals? I'm guessing it's 2001, and that the same is true up through at least 2005 if not the present.

I did the side marker mod this PM and it looks great.
the only thing is that the side markers only flash when the lights sw is on, if not they stay out.

Easy mod, great result.

It's been answered, but I'll say it again...The corner lamp is meant to be a running lamp. But can be made into a turn signal if you wanted...

I did the 'Blinker Mod' about 5 years ago like 2 weeks after getting the truck. lol.

This is what the mod does:
Parking lamps off: stay off as normal, but turn on the turn signal, corner lamp flashes with the main turn signal.
Parking lamps on: stays on as normal with park lamps, but turn on the turnsignal, corner lamps flashes alternating with the main turn signal bulb.

*note: I understand the 04+ trucks require it to be done a different way than the daniel stern link, though I'm un sure. I may be confusing it with the Fog Light Mod(fogs stay on when highbeams are lit).

Here's a Youtube vid I did a long time ago, since no-one seemed to have a good video showing it.
