front main seal

I got my finger about knuckle deep into my head trying to figure out how th change the front main bearing seal on my 85 2.3

Its really frustrating and i wanna change so i can put my block back together today

take the front seal housing off the block, set it on some 2x4's and drive it out from the back, then drive the new one in from the front with that housing thing still off the engine, don't want to damage that aluminum part

So i should use a soft faced hammer and tap it out?

the seal? support the housing from the front side so it won't break to where you don't get in the way of the seal exiting and just drive it out from the back with a flat head screwdriver and a hammer evenly in 3 or 4 spots, to reinstall support it from the back and drive it from the front evenly with a soft face hammer or with care with a normal hammer...
