Looking into running a front locker. I'm a little worried about turning locked in 4wheel, either on the street in snow/ice or off-road. Any bad turning habbits with an automatic locker? Or just something I'll have to work around? Will manual hubs help? What other mods should i consider when it come to a fron locker? I heard something of replacing an E-clip with a spring....
Anyway for those who have had a front locker, what's your opinion? Will it be ok to drive in the snow in town or annoying and best left to a trail rig only?

BTW mine is a hybrid axle with 4.10 gears, so i have the D-28 carrier, etc.

It should drive and handle just fine if you unlock the hubs while on the street. As for offroad driving/ turning, I think they decrease the turning radius a little or something like that. But, I am not sure.

I was actually going to ask this same question, I am looking to get a locker for either the front or the rear.

why not put a selectable locker in the front? best of both worlds

If you get a selectable locker, you'll want to upgrade to a D35 center housing. Buying a selectable locker for a D28/35 hybrid is a waste of money, if they even make a selectable locker for that carrier.

I really don't want to shove out the money for a selectable locker. Lunch box is as far as I'll go. There's nothing wrong with a hybrid axle.....It'll handle the 3.0 power I'm swapping in fine. Remember the hybrid just has a 28's R&P and carrier, the shafts, beams, hubs, etc. are all 35, and the weak point of the 28 was the outer shafts. I really don't want to switch out chunks, I have 4.10's already, why waste the money to regear a new front chunk?

U still can find d35 chuck with stock 4.10s. I did out of a 91 2.3 truck very cheap. I just gave him my 3.73 chuck cuz he changing gears. As for the locker i herd there not that good to drive unless u just go in the mud an or rocks. Just trail fiding would suck an piss u foo i herd. My buddy was gona do it on his but just desided to do the rear an leave the front open

I don't mind mine at all on the street in snow, doesnt turn any worse than normal. However, turning on the trail is much harder in dry conditions. Very worth the problems. Remember, you can always have 3 wheel drive by unlocking one of the front hubs.

I may just do a rear lunchbox. Leave the front open. Thanks for the replies. :icon_thumby:
