Well i got my new 4x4 hubs put on today and picked the truck up at 5 o clock. As im driving home i get this random vibration in the front wheels, a loud vibration clearly comming from the front drivers side wheel. When the truck comes to a complete stop the vibration goes away. Then i get up to about 40 mph and might hit a slight bump in the road and the vibration kicks in again. It is getting very consistant. Like i said, it wont happen at slow speeds but once i get 40mph+ the slightest bump in the road will cause the vibration to kick in. Ive checked to make sure the shop put the lugnuts back on, and i cant bring it back there because they are closed to monday. I was wondering if any of you guys had any idea what could be causing this vibration. Thanks in advance

could somehow your hubs be in the locked position or maybe just the drivers side one? try putting it in 4x, drive it around on gravel(anything besides pavement) and put it back into 2 wheel. see what happens.

Yo,
Is this a vibration in the steering wheel or is it something that your whole body feels?

possibly the hub could be loose and not installed right. jack up the front end and check for play.

its not just the steering wheel, i can feel it in my whole body

and the 4 wheel drive still doesent work. I have to take it back on monday so they can put axle seals in it. at the moment it wont hold a vaccume. Just keeps drawing in outside air. I dont think it can be locked but i will try puttin it in 4 and driving around a little, and taking it back out. Maybe the drivers side axle seal resealed itslef. Ill also check if one or two of the wheel weights got knocked off. Ive drivin with unbalanced tires before. But ive never had one this bad. Thanks for the info. If anyone else has any ideas Please post them.

well, bad news, the RETARDS that installed my hubs "forgot" to put that little ring gear that goes around the axle to engage the 4 wheel drive into the hubs. so, the vibration was the axles rattleing around in the hubs, which destroed the splines on both the hubs and the axles. real good day im havin. The shop offered to replace both parts for free. and not charge me labor. on replacing them.

well, the shop that foguled up my axles/hubs offered to buy a new set of axles and hubs for me, they told me to give them a quote on what i want for axles and hubs. So i have not had too much luck on finding things online so far. So i figured id ask around here.

Does anybody know of a company that makes aftermarket axles for a 99 4.0 ranger off road.
and a set of good mannual hubs, ive had enough of this auto vaccume hub BS.

also how hard is it do install the hubs, i might just do it myself. save the labor.

its not too hard. didnt they say they wouldnt charge you for the labor or the parts? or was it that they would not charge you for the parts only and you had to pay the labor for the screw up?

then again, i guess your dont really want to give them a chance to screw up again.

i dont know about aftermarket axles but i do know that AVM makes manual hubs for your ranger.

they werent going to charge me for any parts even the busted ones, and they werent going to charge me for the labor they already put into it. But they were going to charge me the labor to install the new ones, which i think is BS, and your right, i dont trust them after this to put them in. Id rather attempt it myself and screw it up, than pay somone else to screw it up.

thanks ill look into those AVM hubs

They screwed it up. I'd take it to another shop and bring them the bill.
