Ok, so I've got a knock or a clunk coming from the front end on the drivers side. I can sometimes feel feedback through the steering wheel. It'll happen when turning or from bumps in the road. My initial hunch was a failing ball joint, in which case I need to replace it asap, but I'm not 100%. I've searched here and found lots of info on the process of replacing them (looks pretty straightforward) but nothing about checking them out. Any pointers are greatly appreciated. 2wd with the coil suspension

But......I could be totally wrong and it could be something else so any thoughts on the matter are welcome.

Thanks!

*Edit* Upon closer inspection all 4 ball joints have torn boots so they will be getting replaced soon

To test for bad ball joints: jack up the front end and support it on jack stands. Take the front tire and grab it at the top and bottom(12 and 6 o'clock position). Push and pull on the tire and see if you notice any play. If play is noted, you likely need new ball joints.

Also check your sway bar bushings, as those are known to cause a clunking when they wear.

Awesome. Thanks for the info! I would have overlooked the sway bar bushings. But like I said I'll probably end up doing all the ball joints anyway because all of the protective boots are torn. :dunno:. Better safe than sorry I suppose.

Check your tie rod ends as well. Mine did the same thing and they were shot lol. good luck

mine does it too, seems like i gotta check those tie rod ends too...
thanks for the info guys!

Check your radius arm bushings also. Mine are bad and make a clunk when braking or going over bumps. I have the bushings just waiting on a free day to change them out.

mine are strange they clunk when goin in reverse. a little bit. but then straighten out maybe it is the tranny. maybe i will have my wife change gears to 4.30 when i go to korea
