I am wrapping up my 5.0 swap, and i need to get the front driveshaft in so I can get an exhuast stuck on it.

How much allowance do I need to figure so it doesn't stretch the boot out but still not bottom out?

BW1350 t-case so it is splined.

Jack the driverside front tire up until your up against your bump stop and measure your driveshaft length. Add a 1/2" compression for safety and go with your budget from there, a stock shaft may work for you (have enough droop) or you may have to purchase a longer travel slip yoke setup.

My suspension is still stock down to the swaybars, so I think the stock slip will be ok.

Should be fine, Kyle M noticed that explorers had a slightly longer front driveshaft if you need that.

No, I need to go the other way. My A4LD was a couple inches longer than the C5.

Shortening is cheap! Measure it out and take it to a driveline shop. Should be less then $50 to get it reworked for you.

I did, but they were kinda messing with me.

He figured how long he thought it should be, and then left it an inch longer and tacked it up for me to test fit. He didn't tell me that, so I was kinda puzzled when it wouldn't didn't fit, it was an inch too long from what felt natural (26 years of the boot in roughly the same position). I was trying to get a measurement for sure so I could tell him how long it needed to be, but he already knew before I said anything.

He was just making doubly sure it would fit so it wouldn't have be re-tubed if it was too short.
