front drive shaft for 2.3 D35 swap...

ok, I know you have to shorten the shaft when swapping to a D35, but 4 cylinder engines are longer than V6's, so would a 2.9 front shaft take up the difference? if so, which one? my truck has a manual 1350 case and an M5OD. if it helps anything, I'm planning to go with the sploder coils while I'm there, already have sploder leaves out back, will have the 8.8 in at some point as well...

I'm sure this has been done, I just jumped into the turbo swap (opportunity came up), and haven't paid that much attention on the D35 swap over the , and now it's a little more mandatory... not to mention the 7.5 is on it's last legs... my recent abuse to it isn't helping anything

You've got a 90, you sure you don't have a D35? Either way the driveshafts are the same between the engines, you can use a driveshaft from a TK5 or FM145 rig though because those trannys were a bit shorter.

it's an '89 4 cylinder (the chassis is anyway), and besides, 12 bolts on the pig=D28... didn't they save the 28's and hybrids for the 4 banger trucks, or use them on these the longest?

so if I find a ranger with a D35 in the yard, I could just steal the shaft from that though... I'll have to look, probably next saturday. I saw one 1354 manual case last time I was there, too bad it was on an auto... does the 1350 linkage work on the 1354? the front output on my case is pretty worn out, so that wouldn't hurt...

The hybrid didn't start till 93 and for the most part looks like a D35 to the untrained eye.
Any RBV with a D35 will have a 1354, you must either use the 1354 and that driveshaft or get your 1350 driveshaft cut down 1 inch or find a FM145 or TK5 driveshaft.

I know the difference between the 1354 and 1350, drive shaft wise, I would rather have the slip in the shaft instead of the xfer case.

I was just wondering if I have to find a 1354 manual case from a truck with a M50D, seems I only find them with autos, I have the shifter for my 1350 and wondered if that part was the same.

All the t-cases are the same. I'm using A4LD linkage on mine that also worked with my 1350.

The Transfer Case shift linkage from a FM/1350 combo will not work on a M5OD/1350 or M5OD/1354 combo.

The A4LD and M5OD Transfer Cae linkage is the same. So you can take a Manual 1354 off the back of a A4LD for a M5OD.

FM146 is the same length as the M5OD/A4LD, the FM145 is shorter.
