i have an 87 ranger and broke a couple things in the front end wheelin soon to do a straight axel or d35 swap but i got a complete d28 front end out of an 87 bronco II is everything the same so it will bolt right up??
thanks the help i could not really find a straight answer anywhere

Just make sure the gear ratios are the same.

If they arent make sure you swap the gears while the beams are out, otherwise its a bitch. If you swap the diffs instead of gears, make sure to keep the shims with their respective pig.

ya thanks the gear ratios aredifferent but i got the rear end too because i get lower gears anyways... isnt it true that the spring perches are wider on the bII rearend??

yea that is true

ya thats what i thought... do you know how much wider? am i gonna have to weld on new perches??

yeah you will unless you want to extend your some way, which might not be safe. i have the rear axles from both a b2 and ranger out in the yard i can measure them up for you when i get a chance

its not too big of a deal if im gonna have to do it anyways i can just measure when i get the axle outta the ranger i already got the bII axle out and stripped down just gotta get the time to pull the one outta the ranger

Check the Tech Library

Reread the 7.5 page, if I remember right (not likely), only one side is a different length. So measure before you cut off both perches, you may only need to move one.
Good luck

ok thanks alot ill definately check into that

ya you were correct is says that the The right side Bronco II axle shaft is 1-5/8" wider than the Ranger shaft. All of this additional width is on the passenger side. The drivers side shaft is the same length in either axle assembly so im guessing that that means that the right side perch would be set wider and the pass side would be correct

check out a member named alwaysFlOoReD. he done something with his b2 rear and extended the perches farther so no cutting was required, just a little more welding

hmmm never thought of doing anything like that.. thanks for the heads up

Yea, I did a quick temporary fix, I put an '87 Ranger rear into a '85 B-II . It works but I wouldn't recommend it for a permanent fix unless the axle was wider than the one I put in, I've noticed that I get some rubbing on the inside of the tire to the wheel well on a quick u-turn. I'm using 31-10.5/15 Baja Claws.

I probably could have just measured carefully and drilled the spring perches and not bothered putting in the plate for an even quicker temporary fix. The spring would have been cantilevered but not more than I would be willing to accept [I just didn't have a drill bit to do that at the time, I was rushed].
