okay so iam trying to change my timing chain that broke but i need to get the crank pulley bolt off to remove the pulley/balancer but cant figure out a way is there something that locks it in place so i can loosen the bolt thanks need my truck back

impact wrench is by far the best way. or you can try putting the truck in 1st gear(if manual) or park, and e brake on, block the wheels and use a breaker bar.

thought I read on here somewhere once that someone placed a big breaker bar against the frame and then bumped the starter to get that bolt loose. Might want to do some searching to find the thread.

if the bolt is loose/off and the pulley is anything like my 2.9, then you just have to beat the thing off with a hammer. It's on tight.

but always beat the thing off gently. Breakage would be bad:icon_surprised:

thanks for the quick response so if i have a auto and put in park with the e brake on the crank wont turn over

also anyone ever do this on the 4.0 because i need to know if you really do have to take the oil pan off like alldata says to

I haven't done it to my 4.0 (I also have a Navajo), and the BII 2.9 pulley I beat off was not in the truck and DID NOT have the pan on. What's with the crank not turning over?

ya not sure if i want to do that this sucks wish i had an impact

evrything is off except this bolt going to get an electric impact wrench how many ft. lbs. of tourqe do you guys think will be needed thanks

ok got the crank bolt off by doing the bumb start real easy took 2 seconds, now rented a puller bolt all the bolts it came with that go into the balancer wont thread in are the holes threaded in the balancer or do i need diffrent bolts to hold the tool down on the balancer thanks
