First off I've read a lot of the threads already on the forum about the brake upgrades and haven't found anything on this...

I have a 2000 2wd 3.0 with the 10.2" front rotors, only rear ABS...
Brakes have gotten a little too toasty too many times and I need to replace/upgrade. I was looking at just doing the OEM size slotted rotors and came across some stuff that made me raise questions... On my knuckles, there is the separate caliper bracket that bolts to the knuckle. On summit's site I found these:

These are OEM replacements for my truck in the 10.2" size:

These are also listed for the truck but the OD is 11.2"...

Anyone know what the deal is on this? is it gonna be as easy as finding a new caliper bracket that relocates the caliper further out and getting the 1" bigger rotors or (probably) not so easy?

Thanks...

The difference is in the knuckle. there wasnt a bracket to change the caliper mount, ford changed the whole knuckle. but if you get on RPS and are willing to or already have 17in wheels they are working on a group buy so that tee rev will make another set of the cobra brake swap parts. it is new hubs and the caliper spacers to run 13in cobra brakes on the front of rangers. check out my cardomain in my sig to see what the set up looks like mounted.

You can swop on a 01+ knucle and run the bigger 01+ brakes. Or...as suggested above, Cobra 13" swap from a member called Tee Rev over at Rangerpowersports.com. We actually installed those along with 12" rearcobras on my little brothers truck..but we got the incorrect caliper brackets, so had to swap on 98-00 knuckles to run the cobras.

Let me tell you...I've NEVER driven anything that at half tank, when you slam the brakes, the idiot light comes on because it thinks it's out of gas. Cobra brakes front and rear are INCREDIBLE!!

maybe they should update their application lists since it lists the 11" guys for the earlier years... But yeah since posting that i've convinced myself to do the Cobra setup all the way around i've already contacted teerev. They seem to be well worth it from what i've read so far and well justified for how i drive it. And i just found out today my rotors AND pads have cracks from excessive/repeated overheating, so there's no point in putting on new little rotors... Brakes are kind of important

Thanks for your help!

you will love the cobra brakes, you wont stop any faster than stock unless you put on stickier tires, but they will take ALOT more heat before running into problems. it cost me about $1100 for all the parts for the swap and that was using brand new 10th ann calipers which added to the price. if you have any questions feel free to ask, I have been running the cobra brakes with tee rev's adapter for over a year.

Right on. I finally sold one of my off-road toys yesterday so I now have the money to buy the goodies but I also found out they're made in fives... hence the group buy I remember reading about before... so I just get to wait now  ... patience is a virtue they say... but so is determination and they don't go very well together haha. Thanks for all your help people and I can't wait for the stuff to get made!
