my front diff is bad on my truck (no 4 WD) pinion moves up and down in the diff.. how do i know if i have a 3.27 ratio a 3.73 ratio or a 4.10 ratio... no tag on it..

The tag on the door, or it will also match the ratio of the rear differential if it still has the tag. There is a chart to tell you what ratio in the tech library. Just click the tech library link directly under the TRS logo at the top of the page.

The tag looks like this (axle code = D1 on this tag):

Your gonna want to check the gear oil for metal so you can count the teeth on the ring gear just use a crayon to mark one gear and spin it around that should confirm the gearset you have in there you never know for sure without a tag attached. Never assume the front and rear are the same that coud be a costly mistake. Your gonna need to torque the pinion nut around 160 ft lbs to get the proper preload on the pinion bearing so find out what you have and what your gonna need to replace the bearing if it is bad preload is real important so get the proper preload and check the gearlash if it is correct your probably OK.
