Which snap ring pliers would yall recommend to remove the front axle retaining snap ring on a 99 ranger?

The problem I am having is most are too fat to fit and the pair that I did get to fit tore up the plastic... which I guess isn't that big of a deal considering you have to replace it anyways. But that dang snap ring had me stumped for close to an hour just trying to get it off, with lots of cussing. I eventually just ripped it out in the form of about 4 pieces.

i dont even bother i just replace them every time there only like ten buck from ford. your 4x4 system relighs on those peices of crap so your better off just pulling them out with a pick in peices and replacing them

I had the same problem today when i try to remove it with my snap ring pliers the plastic just crack and unfortunately i did not know that i would need a new one.... just call ford and the plastic stub shaft retainer is gonna be there Tuesday.....

Finally got the job done!

The trick with the pics is awesome... took me 1 minute to take it off!!!

The problem is i didn't know that there was a metal ring over the plastic snap ring that act like a lock...

if you don't remove this metal ring you can just forget to remove the plastic snap ring... Once you got the metal ring off its a matter of minute to remove the plastic snap ring...

the reinstall of the plastic snap ring was easy but i found it harder to reinstall the metal ring over the plastic snap ring... took me like 10 minute to figure how to push it correctly so he can lock the plastic snap ring... But so far so good with the pick it was not a pain in the ass....

Here is the part number of the orange plastic snap ring : F87Z-3B457-AA :icon_thumby:
