does anyone know if this can be done? I really like the looks of the short bed....however I dont want to replace my truck, if its not that tough I would consider the project

3 options
1. bob the bed
2. shorten current frame
3. buy new shortbed frame and bed and transfer basically your truck to the new frame

A long bed has a 114" WB and a short has a 108", if I remember correctly. You'd have to shorten the WB 6". Just look under and see what all has to be changed to chop 6" out. And then the rear part of the frame has to be shortened 6" too. That's easier.

Assuming you have enough room (axle to frame clearance) to roll your axle forward 6", this is the easiest way to do it. Pull your bed off. Grind the rivets out of your spring hangers. Roll the axle with leaf springs and hangers attached 6" forward. Mark and drill new holes for springs hangers and re-attach them to the frame via bolts. Get yourself a bed and a driveline off a short bed pickup. You might have to make a few bed mounts because all but the front two will be in different places, not a big deal. You might also have to modify your exhaust to clear the new postion of the axle. Cut enough of the rear frame rail off to clear your new bed. You will lose your rear-most crossmember. You can either cut the rivets out of your old crossmember and re-attach it, or just make a new out of a piece of box tubing and weld it in place (what I would do). There's other little BS you'll have to deal with too, but nothing major. If you have the tools, parts (bed, driveshaft, bolts, etc.) and some basic wrenching ability you should be able to finish it in a weekend.

ive considered getting a longbed and grafting the back half to my s/c/ i could have the only 7' box supercab! but thats alot of work for 1' in bed length.

Cut and bob the frame, fuel lines also moving the tank I assume, Brake lines, wire harnesses, emergency brake cable, driveshaft. Then you have to be able to weld the frame back together... so theres that or just cut the back of the frame off and tube chassis it with bed sides lol.

Not the first. DaveR did that ten years ago.
