Ive myself a 90 ranger standard cab with a frame that I think is probably done for. Im not sure though ill post sime pictures later of it to see what you guys think. Mu question is if the frame is shot, could I use the frame from a 94 f150 with a straight six? If not could I use the frame from an extended cab ranger? What years would work best for that? Also could I put the straight six and the tranny from the 150 in my ranger?
Thanks for the responses ill try to get decent pics of the frame.

Are you asking if the Ranger body will fit on a full size truck frame?

No you can't use an F-50 frame. No you can't use an extended cab frame. For the proper fitment of the body you need a frame from a Ranger, of the proper cab type and bed length, from 83 to 92.

I know about the regular cab getting slightly longer in '98? i think, but what's the problem with 93-97 frames under a '90 cab?

The frame horns are different where the bumper and core support mount.

^That^.

Technically he could use the gen 3 frame, but he would also have to use a gen 3 bumper.

After playing with my Gen II bumper trying to match it with a Gen III frame there are a few minor problems...but it is workable. I would post pics but I haven't gotten to that stage yet.

Essentially, I can use the bumper but the mounting plates do not exactly line up so there is going to be a bit of fuddling with the way the bolts feed through. In fact, I will not be using the Gen III mounting plates at all and considered cutting them off and having a different set of plates welded on...or simply reverse the Gen II mounting plates (swap left to right)...but that won't quite work without moving the bolts where the mounting plates attach to the bumper.

Using the Gen III bumper would make things enormously easier and I'm kicking myself in the butt for tossing the Gen III that I cut down to use on my Gen I frame...but I would prefer to use the full Gen III bumper...all 100 or so lbs of it...but I may at some point simply buy a different custom bumper...especially after my 1" body lift is done to clear the steering shaft...

I will post pics sometime later this week...showing how the Gen II bumper can be used on the Gen III frame.

I boxed in the accordion section and added sleeved 3/4" mounting holes on my Gen III

I also drilled and sleeved two 3/4" holes on each side to mount up the bumper with new brackets.

thats my answer.

you can use whatever you want....:icon_welder:

its fawking metal.

Ok I figured I wouldnt be able to but better to ask than not and find out it could work ya know? Im also guessing the engine from the truck wouldnt find then? I know the 5.0 from 150 won't fit. If I did do a swap would it be better to drop in a 5.0 from a mustang or explorer than the straight six?

Explorer 5.0 has been done a few times here. I've only seen one picture with a straight 6 in a Ranger and wasn't finished yet..

The general consensus on the 4.9 swap is that while it is possible it is impractical.

I measured out for that swap once, getting the engine back far enough that removal of the bell bolts would be practical means having about 3 inches in which to put the fan and radiator. That's not enough room.

Nice work ~ !

I would do something like that with mine but I figure there must be some vehicles on the road that someone will eventually look at and think "why did he do it that way"...:icon_rofl:

My way will work good enough for what I need it to do and should not fall off in a minor front end bump...hoping it won't rust out but I've got that covered with a can or two of rocker guard...

general consensus....:dunno:

this has been done a few times....some range of influence for this for sure....when mark hacked up the one bronco 2 truck it was because it was a toy...and just wanted to get it done.

tonys truck was done with it fully intact. the 300 is fitable for sure.

body swaps to full frames are a no brainer....works real good. the ttb ranger limitation with the k member does not exist there.

the rbv ttb k member is the limiting factor on ease of fitment. like it is on most swaps...even cammers. in this respect its its fair to say the typical wheezer 300 six is not a worthy effort, though possible.

if you have a sas building a k member to accommodate an inline 6, well it fits it in there pretty good. creative cooling is usually par for any larger engine swap so that is what it is.

the 2wd tib chassis is more accommodating as well. and both really need a bodylift.

Nice work, but certainly drives home the saying, given enough time and money, anything is possible. Have fun!
