so my buddy cracked is frame from off roading. my idea to repair is to stop drill the 3 splinter cracks, grind a V into the cracks, fill them with welds, grind the welds flat. next would be to cut a 1/4" steel plate matching the frames curves, mark the shock mount holes, drilling them then weld the plate to the frame. last would be to install the shock mount with torque bolts or use some of my aircraft shear rivets. what do you guys think? anything i should do or anything i shouldn't do? thanks

i would say your on the right path to fixing it!!! I would reinforce the frame in that section so it can't happen again!!!!!

x2 here. Sounds like and looks like the right path.

Just make sure the 1/4" plate is long enough to spread the load out farther and not concentrated in once central area. Wouldn't hurt to also drill holes in the plate for some plug welds, just for extra reinforcement.

Man, that's one heck of a crack.............................

How does the other side look?

Make sure you make the plate a <> shape so there are no 100% vertical welds, if you dont the frame will eventually crack at the welds.

gota get it painted 2maro.

yea he jumped a road not realizing the intersection and on the other side of the road is huge ass ruts which broke the frame. the other side was fine. i think he bottom out the shock, cause thats the mount were it cracked. yea the back has a 1/8" plate and the front side has a 1/4" plate all welded so it should be fine.

You should have made the plata longer to spread the load a little more, but it looks good.

i would have gone back a little more but the frame sets back about a 1/2". didn't want to heat the panel and pound it back. f!*$ it works fine he just took it out again on this really jacked up road and checked it. no cracks or chips. i gota do a bed cage anyway so when that gets done the frame will be backed by the cage.

damn i gota stop messn with other peoples trucks and start on my trucks! also get a camera my cell phone pisses me off to much.

or sell my trucks fly'n at 10,000 or cruising on the deck is so much funner! i love my plane!
