Frame Compatibility

For my 84, could I use a different year frame than the first gen? I wanted to transfer my parts to one, because looking for a specific year(s) frame cost more.

If so, or if not, why does it? why doesn't it? and what is the downside to it if it does fit? upsides?

i believe someone on your freebie truck thread said up to 97 will fit. you will prolly have to do some minor work to it but it will work

well 83-88 will work but after that stuff changed so modding it might be the only option

I was hoping the 89's would fit too, there is a lot of those rangers.

search 93-97 are direct bolt on minus the front bumper for each generation(frame horns are the only then that change for gen 1,2, and 3 so 3 different frame horns, but an 84 extended cab will bolt to a 97(or 90) ext cab frame minus the front bumper

98-current the 2 front body mounts wont line up, but extended cabs frome all generations will work so if you have an 84 extended cab, it can bolt to a 2010 frame and all you will have to do is drill 2 holes in the radiator support for a mount and fab a front bumper bracket.

in 98 ford extended the regular cab so swaping a older regular cab is harder for 98+

Anyone in PA with one or a parts truck willing to donate? really..... I need one badly, and dad finally said yes to allowing this project to go through with. I have 3 or 4 weeks till I can actually have room for it, maybe a month or two.
