I bought my 94 ford ranger stepside standard cab about a year ago at the least and it was running fine. It's got a 6 inch suspension lift and a 2 inch body lift with 33/15/12.5 tires on it. Recently in the past month its been getting extremely sluggish especially up hills and loss of power. The temperature doesn't seem to go up on the gauge but the motor seems to get REALLY hot. I have yet to figure out whats wrong with it; I have changed the oil not to long ago, spark plugs and wires, fuel filter, cleaned my air filter, anti-freeze because my main hose exploded, new rear end 373 just like the front. Truck is 4 wheel drive. message me or email me if you have any ideas or thoughts of what i can do. my email is taz11911@aol.com

have you checked you thermostat to see if it needs to be replaced ive run it to it causing problems on my buddys 1991 mustang gt 5.0 ho it would die and he put alot of time into tryin to figure out why it was dying and after he droped some serious money to get the alternator and some other things rewired we found out the temp gauge easnt workin it would go to normal operating temp and stop and it would die and become very sluggish to the point of running rough so one day after a couple of beers we wanted to change the thermostat and it hasnt died yet and it runs better with the new one so u might want to check that

oh yea one more thing be careful about how much water you use after you replace the thermostat to much and the gauge wont read right and it will show normal but be really hot and remeber to be on a flat surface ive had yotas get air bubbles in them when we would change the antifreeze on an incline

Have you checked for vacuum leaks at all? Is it pinging? Have you seafoamed the motor? I haven't owned my truck for very long but the things seem to be the main power robbers are those things. Maybe you got some crap on your MAF sensor while you were wheelin, its hard to tell without experiencing it first hand, maybe some of the guru's could lend some knowlage.

3.73's with 33's and a 3.0? im not sure that truck could GET any more sluggish :icon_rofl:

check/clean your MAF sensor. being that you have a serviceable filter on the truck, its very common for people to over-oil the filter and foul the MAFS.

did the motor seem to get hot before your radiator hose blew? do you have heat from your vents when you turn it on? is the check engine light on/does the check engine light work?

yes i've changed the thermostat and made sure to fill it properly. but i haven't checked the MAF sensor ..not sure where that would be located either , one of my friends who works on cars suggest that it could be the FPR but i dont know, i think hes just suggesting ideas.and yes my check engine light does work and only turned on for a couple minutes when i was on the highway commuting to work going about 85 for some bit of miles and thats when it was running alright and not as bad as it is now.

WICKED, YOUR ALIVE, good to have ya back!!!!:yahoo:

new symtom

alright so i changed the MFA sensor and no difference..and now its like stuttering when i accelerate feels and sounds like if i were to let off the gas and step on it again . what else could it be? im stuck and im trying to sell it this week to my friend who hasn't test drove it yet and im sure when he drives it he'll change his mind?

these symptoms are very broad, and theres a whole bunch of things left to try so dont expect any miracles.

does the sputtering and hesitation go away if you put the old MAF back in? also, try unplugging the idle air control solenoid while the truck is idling rough. if the idle doesnt change then your IAC is sticky and needs cleaned/replaced. have you checked for vacuum leaks? is the truck equipped with EGR?
