Does anybody know if Fox shocks shipped with a nitrogen charge? I am in a toss up between fox emulsions for 135, or foa for 140 with a resi. Both are 2.0 but i know foa is shipped without nitrogen. Any help?

foa is garbage. if you even need to rebuild the fox shocks, the parts are cheap and ship very fast since its a larger company.

Just wondering why FOA is garbage. just cause it is not what you running? I was looking to get a set and was looking into FOA.

when i say that, im leaning twards the coilovers sucking. anyone who is an engineer or a machinist knows that the finer the threads, the stronger. FOA decided they wanna use Acme threads on the bodies insted of UNF threads. they have been know to strip at times. Acme threads are good as driving devices in applications such as lead screws in lathes.

so if the construction of the coilovers is faulty, thats enough for me to stay away from all of their products.

my buddy also rebuilds shock and coilovers for a living. he has unbiasedly recommended only Fox and Sway-A-Way. he says bilsteins are good but the parts take forever to ship and they are more expensive.

btw, i do run Sway-A-Way in the front and Fox in the rear.

The reason you have seen FOAs strip is do to coil bind not because of the thread design. It doesn't mater what brand shock you have. If it has coil bind say goodbye to the adjuster collar.......

well that's all good news, but it doesnt answer my question. lol. do fox shocks come with a nitrogen charge or do i have to get them filled?

Any motorcyle shop should be abel to charge up the shocks for you,So dont let if they come charged or not be what swings you one way or the other.

Myself I would watch race-dezert, dezertrangers or even graigslist for 2.0 shocks, as they can be had cheap time to time for the "big name's"

the knock off kings are not a bad bang for thier buck, for what they are. But I have had issues with mine, if you go that route, myself I'd open them up and check them over for quality control.

wear bands fit ,oil is clean of machine scrap, poroisty in the pistion and top caps etc.

.

It would be really cool if some one that had a set of valved shocks would do a write up on how to rebuild a set. this way we all new what folks are talking about.

i will when mine come in but someone else will probably beat me to it as its gunna be a couple weeks. Its really pretty straight forward once you see how its done. i saw a write up somewhere that ill try to find again.

i have a buddy out in san diego who can get you a set usually a bit cheaper than most or even a used but rebuilt set for even cheaper. pm me if you want his contact info.

This should help, with smooth bodys you really dont need any special tools other than a small torch(map gas torch will work) and a good strap wrench and a vice. just have to be carefull.

that will show you the basics of pulling down a shock.

I got a pair of saws sitting in the garage, I can pull down to make a step by step for the most part.

and for oil, you can use mobil dte 11 or shell T-15. Its alot cheper than the "shock oils".

Alrighty, so I have my shock picked out. Now, should get a new shock tower/hoop to accomodate this shock, or should I get the stud mount conversion kit that is in the trs shop?
