Well the B2 every so often has a rough idle and a few members here told me to pop off the throttle body and clean it with carb cleaner. Well as I was taking the throttle body off I saw that a hose underneath it was not connected. Can anyone tell me what this is and could it be related to my idling problem. Here are a few pics I took.

This is where the hose ends which this is located right behind the driver side headlight.

The Red hose you see is the hose that I am talking about. The end is rubber hose but the actual line is metal.

The small nipple in the middle is where the hose connects. This is the throttle body upside down.

This is the line itself, I pulled it out because one end has been disconnected since I have own the truck so I figured no need for the spare parts.

After these photos can anybody tell me what that line is for and if it is important at all? If it is just smog control stuff I am not worried about that.
Thanks!

The line is part of the emissions control system, but is not "smog control" in the true sense of the term. It is part of the evaporative emissions system, costs you no performance to keep it, and actually helps as the system is designed to capture and then use fuel vapor that would otherwise be lost to evaporation, keep it.

That line being off could contribute to poor idle. It runs from the carbon canister to the intake, so if it is off during purge the engine will not run right since it is not getting enough fuel.

Ok great my throttle body was relatively clean so I didnt think that was the issue. I guess I will repair the line and see if I see a change. Thanks! :icon_thumby:

Yeah, just put a little black RTV around the nipple, slide the hose back on, and put a zip tie on it to help hold it while the sealer dries. I had to do that on my Ranger because the line would expand and fall off when the engine got hot.
