found a brushgaurd is the price worth an hour drive?

Now I would be willing to pay $50-75 to have it powder coated black rather then rattel can painted

for the added beneifits of powder coating & the cost savings you paid It would be worth another 1 hr trip to find a powder coating company. Google "Powder coating in PA" I did & theres several, but I dont know where in PA your at.

here's a test fit i did today after work..
NEVER MIND THE FORDRANGERFORUMS SWEATSHIRT it makes a nice "emergency" sweatshirt for in my winter supplies and bushfire gear...

now it's off to get sandblasted..

I have a Westin on my '150, it really soured me on the whole concept of powder coating.

Every little dink from a rock, sand or hardheaded bug had rust behind it. And then you get to stripping it and there is more growing under the powdercoat that you couldn't see yet. I ended up stripping as much of it as I could. Sandblasting (or at least our Snap-On bead blaster cabinet on the brackets) won't touch the crap, neither will paint remover, you have to sit there and burn it off with a wire wheel and even that is a fight. Mine had rubber bumpers around the uprights like the OP's that are hermatically sealed to the uprights, I don't think there is a way to get them off and back on if you wanted to.

I hate the crap, at least paint is easy to strip and reapply. I used Permatex 81849 rust killing stuff (the guys at work swear by it for tractor rims before primer) where the rust was really bad, rustoleum rust preventing primer and gloss engine enamel on top of that which seems to be holding up pretty good.

85_Ranger4x4, You sure nailed that one my buddy said his sandblaster wouldn't phase the coating on this bar. I have an industrial sandblasting company near by that I may have take a look a this thing and see if they want to take a whack at cleaning this thing up.

I'm thinking if nothing else using some rust converter product on it and doing a por-15 paint on it. (not sure at this point what to do..)

that bar looks good in the 150.:icon_thumby:

Thanks :icon_cheers:

I just tried the brackets in the cabinet, I didn't bother putting all the tarps down and trying it outside with the big blaster. I was afraid of it messing up the rubber bumper strips and I didn't see where it would probably do any better.

85_Ranger4x4, what lights do you have on your bar are they the light-force brand?
I'm thinking about getting some 6" lights from harbor freight when i go after tools next week.

Hella 500FF's, somebody messed up at Wal-Mart and had them marked for $35/pair... so I went running out of there with this pair and a set of straight 500's for the Ranger. :yahoo:

sweet wish i could find a deal like that. I don't plan on using them often but sure would be nice to have on a snowy night when dealing with a car fire or crash along side the road at 3 am..
