I found a guy that has a 93 F Explorer 4-door 2WD, 4.0L, auto, loaded. Body is decent, not great though, interior decent, runs good. He wants $750 for it, but I think I can talk him doen. All I really want is the 8.8" axle under it for my Ranger project (if I don't sell it first). I wouldn't mind a few other goodies on it either.
Does anyone else need parts off a 2WD Ex? I know they're somewhat uncommon, but that really doesn't bother me. I've stripped rare cars before. I stripped a 77 Camaro Z28 once, had the 4-speed, posi, all the good stuff.
Still deciding, will let you know based on what others want.

i'd personally go for the disc brake rearend on the later exs. At $750 if might be hard to make your money back parting it out since its not a 4x4.

I bought a 98 Explorer loaded the other day with the 5.0 V8 AWD in it. The engine was knocking pretty bad but I bought it for 1000.00. It's in great shape inside & out with only 121,000 miles showing which checked out to be true on Carfax. I bought a used '98 Mountaineer 5.0 with only 36,000 miles for 600.00 & am having it installed now. I don't know a thing about the AWD but I'm told by FORD they were good trannies that gave very little problems. Anyone know anything the AWD?

The 44-04 T-case in the 5.0 AWD explorers are purely mechanical

There is NO external control whatsoever.

the REAR drive is rigidly connected to the input of the T-case.
There is a viscous coupling in the power path to the front wheels.
this allows just enough slip to prevent "windup" in the front driveshaft.

Are the later model Ex disc brake rear a bolt-in? I'm not sure if it's the same width.
