Take a look at the bottom of the forum menu where it says "Truck Discussions (Sample - no posting)

I had contemplated changing the layout back when I was wanting to move to a new server and upgrade to vBulletin 4. We never moved, and I decided to not upgrade after using vBulletin 4 on other sites.

In my crazy daily life, I remembered that I had been thinking about a change to the menu layout, so I thought I would let people voice their opinion on it.

The sample is just for the 1998 and newer Rangers. It would also have a category for 1983-1997 Rangers.

The engines wouldn't be in those sections, and be in there own section something like:

4-Cylinder (2000 and older)
4-Cylinder (2001 and newer)
2.8L
2.9L
3.0L
4.0L OHV (2000 and older)
4.0L SOHC (2001 and newer)
V-8 Engine Swap (1997 and older trucks)
V-8 Engine Swap (1998 and newer trucks)
Other Engine Swaps
Forced Induction

Do you guys think you would like that more, or leave it the way it is?

I know some theories and ideas cross over between 83-97 and 98-11 with V8 swaps, I don't think it is bad to keep at least them together.

I'm another one that sees a need for the V-8 swap section to be divided a bit. Getting to be real popular.

I don't venture much into the other forums but if it makes sense I'd say change it...change is almost always good...

I'd probably go for it. On one hand it'd make for a LOT of forums, but it'd be specific to the different models (of which there are some big differences). I think it could help.

My vote is yes.

I actually like the layout as is. TRS is just plain easier to navigate than most other forums. some (pirate, steel soldiers, rf, etc...) seem to over categorize and break things down into so many sub-forums you have no idea where to find the info you are looking for.

We seem to run the gauntlet on what people want to do with engine and truck combos. For someone that wants to put a carburated engine in a '98+ truck, once you get past the motor mounts he is going to have the similar issues as someone that did the same in a '95.

And then if you have someone that wants to put an injected Explorer engine in an '83 you might need someone that knows the newer stuff, I just think that most of us "regulars" would be monitoring both forums instead of having a mashup in one... and really it isn't THAT busy anyway. Right now the bottom thread is a week and half old, I could see splitting it up if there was a quicker turnaround but I personally don't see the need right now.

I like the idea of haveing a 83-97 section. I say change it, wait awhile and then ask if it is easier or better to those that are here all the time (guilty of that) if finding info or ask a question was easier to navigate too. If it seems like a problem, nothing says it cant be switched back I assume.

I do agree the v8 swap section has become very popular thing to do to a ranger (yes again guilty). One thing though is I see alot of questions in it that can be easily answered by the tech library or the sticky's.

I do see alot of good info or find a bit that could be added to the tech library and whatnot. I also do agree, its alot for one person to do by themself.

I feel like it would way too divided if you break it down that much. People wouldnt visit some forums near as much and may not look at some at all. It would make it very difficult to get answers to questions since a lot of questions that are asked deal with things that can apply to a variety of years. Leave it as is. Its nice and simple and easy to navigate without having an endless list of forums and subforums.

I like it as is. If people would just learn to use the search function, we'd probably have a lot less threads. Lots of redundancy lately.

Maybe you should make the Search button have a red flashing light like the "Urgent Help" forum.

EDIT: I wish Jim Oaks owned Facebook. They change all their trash all the time, and could care less what you think.

Also, it would probably lead to even more posts in the wrong section. Seems like there are a lot of those recently

Please don't make me use my brain any more than I have to....... :icon_bounceblue:

i Prefer it as is, like CHKNFKR stated, ive been to other forums like pirate and such, and ranger station is just so much more user friendly

I like this idea but add a general question area that does not necessarily fall into either section. I can think of an example off the top of my head right now though.

I would like to see the forum jump feature brought back. I miss that.
