i called up my buddy last week and had him find me some unusually long 12mm bolts for my bed (they needed to be 160mm and the longest ones i could find in our hardware catalog were 120mm). he came through and got me these 12.9 allen socket bolts which fit perfectly, i only wish the heads were larger so that the washer wasnt taking all the load.

yesterday i spent a good two hours looking through the "lets see your bumpers" thread, and when i got home i dragged out the welder and torch and started fabbing! i didnt have enough time to finish it, but i like where it's going.

thanks for the kind words guys, i really thought i was goiing to get the bumper finished yesterday, but i wasnt paying close enough attention to what i was doing and i didnt catch what i did until it was too late. i cut the sides of the bumper that are going to be welded to the front portion, but i cut two lefts instead of one right and one left...DOH! oh well, i have lots of material left over so ill just re cut it. heres some pics in the meantime.

i got the other side cut out and welded on and i cut the diamond plate for the top to fill the 8" gap,but i didnt take any pictures yet. this is seriously the longest its ever taken me to make a bumper for anything, i keep getting interupted by life and......... its frustrating!

me and terra went on a camping trip the weekend after labor day and took thumper along as the rescue ranger just wasnt big enough to haul all of our stuff. we camped at Holly Recreation Area, which is a Michigan state park and we went mountain biking on the intermediate trails at Holdridge Lakes in Holly. heres some pics from our outing

i got some work done on my bumper yesterday, i almost thought i would have it finished and mounted too but of coarse, i ran out of gas in my torch and couldnt finish cutting the pieces. ill get it refilled tomorrow and hopefully finish welding it up and get it ready for paint.

thanks guys, i got tomorrow off so well see how much more i can get done. im hoping to at least have it welded up and bolted on so that it supports its own weight. im not sure if those fog lights will be staying or going because i think theyll be a little too high to do their job right and i would like to get a pair of square driving lights if i can find some that look good enough to go with the other lights.

I didnt get anything done yesterday, i played disc golf and then did nothing for the rest of the day. one of these days this thing will get finished, i just need the motivation to get out there again.

motiviation finally came and bit me in the ass last night. despite the rain and temps in the low 50s i got my bumper fitted welded and partially sanded. i played around with a new set of lights, but am still unsure as to what i will run in the bumper. i have a couple pieces of diamond plate to cut at work tonight for the sides and i also need to drill and slot my mounting brackets, but i made a huge amount of progress last night. heres the pics, now im contemplating whether to powder coat it or herculine it.
