2007 to 1998 front bumper conversion

I've got a 2007 Ranger and want to put a 98 chrome bumper on it (opposite of the usual lol). People say all 98-2011 bumpers bolt on the same, but the mounting brackets seem to be cataloged separately for 98-2000 vs. 2001+.

Has anyone actually done this? Do I need the 98-2000 brackets, or will my stock 2007 brackets work? No fog lights.

The bumper brackets for the 98-2000 raise the bumper up because there is no trim separating the bumper and turn signals

Possibly. When I got this ranger, there was an ugly gap between the amber turn signal lights and the bumper. It must have been replaced because the brackets were maxed out to the top. I had slot the brackets about an inch or so to get the bumper closer to the lights.

No, removing the trim piece will leave a gap.

The 98-00 bumper fits ok-ish to the 01-04 style, which is similar to the 05-11. I did an 01 conversion on my 00 with the 00 bumper. Briefly. I fitted it all up and then removed the headlights and grill before it fell off the jackstands and mangled the front bumper. I’ve been building a new bumper based off the 00 bumper and it fits nicely. I couldn’t find a good 01+ bumper in the junkyard and decided I wanted to go a different way anyway.
