I know this is a Ranger forum, BUT, has anybody else been keeping tabs on the new 2011 F-150 on Ford's website. The 3.5 Ecoboost they are putting in it seems to be a real contender to all the other engines. Enough so to make my inner devil smile and giggle with joy. :D. Makes me want to get a new truck and move my status in the family from under-dog Ranger to top-dog Ford that has more torque than my dad's 91 Dodge Cummins.

Whaaaaa? there putting the 3.5 into the f-150? I know its a bada** engine, but it comes in the taurus SHO. And, idk, it just seems wrong how a "heavy duty" pickup will share an engine with a mid-size sport sedan lol. It seems more fitting to put the 3.5 into the ranger since its a smaller truck. I think they should put a new V8 in the f-150....perhaps an ecoboost V8? The power of a 10 cylinder, the fuel economy of a v8 lol.

Im trying to convince my dad to trade in the Freestar for an ecoboost F150, he uses the minivan like a truck already, why not have a truck to use as a truck. As for power, it has plenty, the 3.5 ecoboost is in the Flex and they pull and carry alot of weight pretty well and its not like the they will have the same computer as the Taurus, the ecoboost F150 will probably have a different tune for more torque or something.

The Ecoboost has 365 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and best-in-class 420 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,500 rpm, and up to 90 percent of the peak torque available from 1,700 rpm to 5,000 rpm – all on regular fuel

The F150 gets 4 all new engines for 2011- 3.7 N/A V6, 5.0 V8, 3.5 TT V6, and 6.2 V8. If I ever NEEDED to replace my truck, I'd get a reg cab, short bed, 3.7 F150.

Remember when ford said that they discontinued the ranger and expected us to move to the ecoboost F-150 or a fiesta well you people are proving them right.

but it is a nice truck too big for me tho

The 3.5 is actually the preferred motor for towing in an f-150 over all other engine choices, including the 6.2. The 6.2 is more of a hot rod motor that makes all it's power up top - designed for racing.

The F150 is nowhere near a heavy duty pickup... It is light duty... at best.

The 302 was put in both the Mustang and the F-150...

A Ecoboost 3.5 is too much engine for a Ranger sized vehicle.

They are working on a Ecoboost 6.2 for when the Powerstroke is no longer feasable for a truck buyer. Every EPA crunch makes it more expensive and eventually the price will chase people away, so plan B is a boosted 6.2.

I remember Ford saying that.

If you think about it, a supercab Ranger is about the same size as a regular cab short box F150. They both carry about the same number of people, I won't subject people to the back seats of my supercab Ranger. The box size is similar, 6.5' for the F150 and 7' for a long box Ranger, the F150's would just be wider and deeper. And both can be had with a V6.

One major difference would be the lack of manual transmission in the F150...that would be the deal breaker for me.

7.0, they exist in r@d

but at half the displacement, the 3.5 is definitely great for a 150....the fact you can buy a mid 14 150 that gets 20 plus mpg freeway is awesome....even with a 6.:icon_thumby::icon_thumby::icon_thumby:

The Ecoboost V6 in the half ton is also bumped from what it makes in FWD applications because now it has a nice stout transmission and chassis behind it designed for big V8's.

Ford is also torture testing 1 Ecoboost engine. It will go through 250,000 simulated kilometres, work at a logging company as a skidder, tow the NASCAR Fusions around and go race baja. The same motor. With no teardown inbetween, only at the end.

It's not quite that simple. First, they are doing the baja thing with a motor that has already seen extensive testing. Then, they are taking a different truck and going to put two fusion stock cars on a trailer and do 24hrs of laps at as quick of a pace as the truck is capable, so lots of WOT on the straights, and they are only stopping for gas, tires, and drivers. Good test of the brakes I think. They are also taking one logging, but I read it as three different trucks. The Baja truck's motor has already seen 24 hour testing and has been beat on hard they say.
