Ford teams up with Toyota

I hate Alan Mulally and Mark Fields and what they have done to my beloved Ford. I think its time for me to look at GM and Chrysler for all future purchases. No RWD Mark series for years! They kill the Panther platform after not developing it for decades. They are going to kill the Ranger after not developing it at all since 1998. THEY THINK I WILL BUY A FIESTA OR FOCUS INSTEAD. THEY CAN GO **CK THEMSELVES. Once the supply of good used Rangers dries up in oh say 2020 there is not a Ford I am interested in buying. Hey Ford if I am going full size I am going with Ram. At least they look good and you get low end torque out of that HEMI. Nice and simple. Not DOHC or "eco-boost".

Rant over.

all this and then you slap me in the face again and go to sleep with the enemy!

I think hybrids are a bandaid. What happens when they run out of materials to build batteries with, or the price of them just plain sky rockets?
I do like what ford is doing with their ecoboost engines... smaller engine sizes with multiple turbos. I also don't understand why car makers don't make anything with light weight 13" wheels that are 4" wide any more.... sure, you can't take a corner at 60mph but all that saved weight and smaller tires size was great for gas mileage. Everything now has at least 16" heavy ass wheels and wide tires.

i don't really think that ford would touch a hybrid truck if it were not for government regulation.... you got to remember government sticks their noses in everything... and now that the government is requiring auto makers to up their overall average milage, ford HAS to explore hybrid truck options b/c tuck mileage is what hurts the average the most... so really when you go to vote in 2012 remember that the person you are voting for has an influence on more than just politics.... they can and will tell us what we are allowed to drive by tightening up the belt on the emission standards. before you know it we will all be driving around in those little tiny cans with wheels that you sometimes see rich hippy's driving in.:damnit1::damnit1:

I got no problems with a hybrid truck. I wish big rigs where diesel electric like locomotives. My wife drives a Prius. I got no problems with the top 2 manufacturers working together to develop a hybrid truck. Why drive a fuel sucking bitch when you have the choice to drive something that has the same amount of power and gets triple the mileage?

Built right, you could see a pickup truck with the torque of an electric motor and the midrange/topend of a turbocharged engine that rewards you with a long fuel range. What is wrong with that?

Ford has been "working with" Toyota on Hybrids for years. Where do you think the 1st generation hybrid drive in the Escapes came from? We bought it from Toyota.

I have no problems with high mileage vehicles, but I also don't think the CURRENT gas/electric system is the best way to do it. CSX trains are claimed to move 1 ton of freight 1000 miles on 1 gallon of diesel fuel.

Lets do the math here. If we applied the same technology to the standard motor vehicle, we could, on paper at least, be driving full sized pickups that get 500 miles to the gallon. With all the power you could want and more.

I am SO not seeing the problem here.

yea those trains have massive electric motors powered by diesel generators... this is me guessing here but i would say that the technology is very expensive to say the least. i believe that automakers would be already doing it if the consumer could afford it.

Its closer to 400 miles with a loaded 1 mile train...... That figure they advertise is best case senario but its a step in the right direction. I wish big rigs were diesel electric.

They should give up on the hybrid technology until our technology catches up to what were trying to do, They should go refine the external combustion style engine, just think of what we could do with steam engines designed with the help of computers :icon_idea: Oh wait that would cut out the cost of fuel, they wouldn't want that would they?:thefinger:
