Ford Service is a JOKE!

Yeh from a shop point of view, I am sure you make the bulk of your money on finding repairs that people need such as brakes or other lubrications. Still, I will always do my oil/filter and tire rotations myself. I enjoy doing it and save money at the same time. Plus it gives me a reason to be in the garage which is a good thing for me!

I did my own oil till i found a shop nearby that does it for 17 bucks

cost me 20 to 25 to do it myself and i have to find a place to dump it, or they can do it for a few bucks cheaper

but it doesnt make all that much sense to pay someone to rotate the tires

Rotating your tires is pita. I enjoy changing my oil.

That price sounds about right.

AAFEs prices:
Oil Changes:
14.50 + Oil Cost per Qt. + Oil Filter = Total
Castrol = 14.50 + 5qt (3.49) + 1 (4.59) = $36.54
Royal Purple = 14.50 + 5qt (7.95) + 1 (4.59) = $58.84

Rotation & Balance = $29.95
Tire Repair = $10.75
Coolant Flush = $75 (coolant included)
Battery core charge = $10

Wiper Blade install = N/C
Battery install = N/C
Battery / Alternator test = N/C

Minimal Labor = $5.95 (spare install, vehicle lift inspection, etc.)

the royal purple price is about right for our shop. except the regular cheap oil cost almost as much the royal purple down there.

The ford dealership i'm working at charges 49.95 for a maint # 1 service, which is oil and filter change, complete multi point inspection, top up of all fluids, and check and set tire pressures and measure tread.

The maint # 2 is 59.95 and includes all that plus a tire rotation and brake inspection.

For what you get, I can't see how you can think the price is out of line. Dealers don't make any money doing services.

Valvoline is our cheapest name brand @ $3.09. If I remember Pennzoil is the highest regular oil @ $3.99. Mobil 1 is $7.19, and Royal Purple is $7.95. But I bought the Royal Purple when we had to move it @ $6/qt. :D.

Heres a crack for some idiots. We offer a TSA (Tire Service Agreement) when they purchase any new tires with us and have us install them for $9.95 per tire, OR without the TSA for $9.45. So for $0.50 up front for each tire, the tire will be covered under our warranty. Free lifetime tire rotation & balance, free tire repair, free inspection. And if anything should go wrong with the tire to which it can not be repaired, we will pro-rate it. So the customer will not be paying full price of a new tire. I spent 30minutes trying to convice this customer why they should pay the extra $2.00.

I don't think he was complaining about the service; I think he was complaining about the pricing - at least that's how I interpreted it.

What do you think? Is the pricing out of line?

Im sure the service is great the employees are specialized in working on fords. The price is what I'am bitching about :icon_cheers:

RE: Latest Post by LearjetMinako

I agree.

Sometimes people have trouble seeing what's right in front of their eyes.

Or they're too convinced that things "are too good to be true" and can't see a bargain when it's presented. Or they're always convinced that all businesses are out to rip them off.

Would be better if people could look at things realistically and with some common sense and logic - sure makes it easier to find out what's true and what isn't.

Figure it out, a bargain like that keeps customers coming back - and if they have extra coverage for their purchases, and keep coming back (e.g. for tire rotations, balancing, etc.), the better the opportunity to have them purchase other goods and services while they're on the premises.

That's the whole thinking behind "one-stop-shopping": get the customer in for one thing, and then get them to buy a whole bunch of other stuff.

Businesses that rip off customers don't last very long.

Price doesn't seem so out of line from what I can see - nothing to bitch about.

Just don't go back there if it's out of line for you - lots of other places will do it for cheaper.

Don't bad mouth them just because the pricing doesn't suit you.

This is the way I see it:

$15 to do it myself, 4 for filter, 11 for valvoline oil. Eyeball inspection.

$35 for oil change w/ whatever regular oil you want, and all fluids filled and checked + everything greased. (superlube)

$60-80 at a dealership for the same services you receive at superlube.

I do my own most of the time, just not worth the extra hassle of going downtown and sitting in a store for 30 minutes. I have my oil change down to about a 10 minute process in my driveway anyway and I don't really care if I make a mess.

The shop rate is reasonable for the above mentioned reasons, but I guess my opinion would be that there really is no reason a shop should charge $100 an hour for oil changes when their techs get paid the same as the techs at superlube for the same work.

Our store has that too , except we will replace it for free provided it wasn't run flat long enough to damage, so if we can't patch it cause the sidewall got punchured or something its replaced free of charge. Customers get so pissed all of the time saying like "but I didn't realize it was flat" (note 6" side wall), or "I was in the middle of nowhere" (note spare tire in trunk) I feel kinda bad but the warrenty clearly states no run flat tires will be replaced free of charge. actually had to refuse the warrenty cause this guy was poor and had an enemy, 4 new tires one day to went flat cause they left the car overnight (both had pin holes in the outside of the tires) put tubes in them for free, got it towed back the next day with 4 flat tires (guess what 4 pin holes and the valves cut) he ended up having to pay for 4 tubes and was trying to sue us because he claimed that they were damaged before or in the parking lot.

Our oil cost so much I don't know why they don't just switch to napa, 2.98 a quart (full price, but we get a discount), or like 5 - 6 for carquest (Full price nomatter what). Our shop also includes that top to bottom inspection stuff.

We get quite a few of those customers that drive until the tire is destroyed. Our warranty says we will NOT cover tires "Driven to destresction". But because our managment is so lean-it, we still pro-rate 90% of them. Even if the tread belt is no longer there, we'll just measure the tread depth from the adjcent tire.

You guys are so nice:icon_thumby:, we won't even if its only driven like 20 yards.
