FORD`s super secret Megazilla V8

12k? 18k around here, and they sell so fast. Lot of young-ins are throwing stacks on gas dodges now. WTF?

Smoke is smoke... just a little more blue I guess :dntknw:

Thinking about putting an oil burning furnace in the back of the ranger. Could get rid of all my waste oil and have a constant stream of black smoke coming out of the stack.

This channel has lots of really good, in-depth videos on the 7.3 and some of the work that's going into it from the aftermarket:

I'm waiting to see them with Whipple's 3.0 supercharger

Mix the gas and oil like a 2 stroke. Then make sure you get one of them tailpipe whistles too.

That new 7.3L is 430 hp.
The latest 3.5L EcoBoost is 400 hp.

The 3.5L can make big numbers, but they usually involve larger turbos and a new intercooler.

If you were limited strictly to a tuner, which motor could make the most horsepower?

I like the efficiency of the 3.5L, but I'm probably not going to like it if I ever have to replace a turbo.

Pretty sure with just a tune the EB would beat the 'zilla for short bursts.

I am going to guess there is a reason Ford developed a whole new platform rather than throwing a tune at the EB for Super Duties though...

You have to think....trying to push that kind of power with forced induction.....espicially in a truck that could very well spend a large majority of that loaded....is just asking for trouble.

Thats why if i ever go modern in a half ton itll be the 5.0.

I will always prefer a diesel over a gas motor on a Super Duty. I rack up a lot of miles and prefer the longevity of a diesel.

As for the 3.5L EcoBoost, it makes 647 horsepower in the Ford GT.

I'm surprised the 400 horsepower 3.5L EcoBoost isn't offered in the Mustang instead of the 310 horsepower 2.3L EcoBoost.

The 5.0L Mustang makes 460 horsepower.

If you want to get in to the big numbers, you need a 527 horsepower 5.2L or a 760 horsepower supercharged 5.2L from a Shelby Mustang.

At 400 horsepower, I have to wonder if Ford has the 7.3L tuned VERY conservatively for mileage and longevity.

I had a f350 v-10 triton as a shop truck. That thing was one of the most god awful engines I've ever had. Besides having tons of issues, the 7.3 diesel in our our 02 f350 would run circles around it and the 6.7 our 2015 the f450 was even better. Yes they cost more new but we bought all those trucks used and there was very little price difference in the used market.

Frankly I'd even take the 5.4 before I got another V10.
Bud of mine has two V-10 F-250's, both 6-speeds. The older one is a rusted lawn ornament but it has headers since that was cheaper than getting new manifolds, the other is a 2008 he got about two years ago with incredibly low mileage, like 36,000, but it's a good thing he bought the warranty since he had to have the engine replaced already. I drove the newer one briefly once and it seemed okay but between that and my work truck I just wasn't impressed.

The reason they use the 2.3 in the mustang is because is makes as much power and has better mpg then the N/A v6 it replaces.

They said when they first announced the 7.3 that it was designed as a medium duty truck engine that was tuned for mpg and longevity. Supposedly even designed a new transmission for it to optimize the mpg and longevity.

I was going to make a point about it probably having lower maintenance cost then an ohc engine.

Then I looked at the oil capacity. Thing takes 8qts. What in the Sam Hill.

@rusty ol ranger how much oil you put in that 460 5 maybe 6qts?
