Declining pickup sales and soaring gasoline prices are threatening Ford Motor Co.'s big-block V-8 engine program. Ford told suppliers last week to stop work on a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that had been scheduled to go into the F-series pickup as early as next year, sources told Automotive News

With gas at $4.00 a gallon, seems like a no brainer.

With diesel at over $4.50 a gallon it is odd they would pull the plug on the V-10's replacement though. Some people still need big trucks.

Probably just another sucky ford gas-guzzling motor like the 5.4, but worse. Probably has no power either. They should have just kept the 351 apparently.

thats the problem, lack of any sane reasoning.

at 5 bux a gallon my old school psd one ton van is cheaper to run then my 302 ranger with gas at 4 bux a gallon.

and pound for pound work wise it sure beats the hell out of any v10 too.

till the new engines came out....now your totally screwed if you want a ford...the new 6.4 is a fuel hawg from hell.

as for the 351, it would be perfect in my ranger, or a fullsize 150/bronco , but in a real truck doing real work like my van its just a gas guzzling nutless turd in stock trim. i would rather tow with a 01 or newer 5.4 anyday.

It was a lot tougher to compare them back when diesels got better milage, but now until the 6.4 gets somewhat broken in (about 60k) they get about the same milage at 13ish on the highway. I know many of the bigger dealerships (GM, Ford and Dodge) are running discounts on diesels so they are about the same price as a V-10 just to move them off the lot.

yeah, all the oilfield service guys here cant wait to get rid of thier 08 6.4 fords...12 mpg and somehow cleaner....????

yeah fawkin right!!!! its sick...we are stupid and deserve it too for putting up with it...

if a guy wants to buy a good economical work rig...buy a frieghtliner/sprinter...

they did not kill the boss/hurricane motor/s. ford has simply made a business decision to keep them out of some future vehicles.

as of right now the f150 will not get the new boss. the boss is slated to be the replacement for the v10 in the superduty.

and the boss was never going into the mustangs regardless of past reports! the mustang will be getting a new 5.0 dohc engine in 2011, this has not changed.
