Ford ranger splash 92

Hey so i picked up this project from someone else and i find that its more reliable than my 2007 mazda 3 lol Hey i'm will im new to the forum i need a 4x4 truck and i was told that there was once a ford ranger with a manuel transfer case in the floor.

If i were to purchase a ford explorer 4.0L 4x4 just for parts what year would be the best for me to do the conversion i currently found one the body is finished its a 1985 for $500 my ranger is a 92 2x4 it kills me to allways be stuck in 2x4 and the truck is in really good shape for its year and i dont stop putting time and money into it.
