So I recently purchased a 2001 Ford Ranger Edge 4.0 SOHC 4x2 Supercab. I have done quite a lot of the basic maintenance already and today I wish you attempt the oil pan gasket. Is there anybody else that has a 3.0 or 4.0 edge that has done this job and knows if there is any lifting of the motor required? Or is the edge lifted enough to where there is sufficient room to pull the pan out of the way to replace the gasket?

According Chilton! Me, IDK.

You can remove the lower section of oil pan (sheet metal stamping) and the oil pump pickup screen with the engine in the vehicle. It doesn't mention having to doing anything other than taking it off.

To remove the upper section of the oil pan (large aluminum casting that is a structural part of the block) you have to remove the engine from the vehicle. And it is pretty involved. It also says two of the bolts go into the transmission.

What enrj44 posted is correct. The stamped pan comes out easily in the vehicle, the aluminum upper portion requires engine removal.
