Ford performance upgrade

If you guys don’t want the tune at least do the k&n filter, I ran it without the tune and I thought I could feel a difference

Notice an increase in gas mileage I won’t comment on how much to early to tell, still driving pretty hard

I installed the FPP tune this morning. An easy, straightforward process. It provides a very noticeable increase in acceleration and "pull". Of course that assessment is a "seat of the pants" thing.
Shifts feel crisp and at the right time. But my transmission/shifts always felt pretty good to me.
In "D" the trans still skips gears unless I input more throttle than what is sensible for normal around town driving. I have not looked at the tune/tuner to see if there is a way to disable that yet.
My plan is to get to a chassis dyno and get data with the stock tune and the performance tune. I want to know the numbers and compare them side by side. The butt dyno is worthless. It will probably be a few weeks considering the challenges the Chinese Virus that is from "Chi....Na" is inflicting upon us.
When I get data I'll post it here.

The pro cal tuner doesn’t do much besides flash Ecu, i looked at the gauge option , which only really supports rpm data

I'd like the power but I drive too much to spend an extra 60 cents a gallon for 91 octane.

IMHO, the power from the 2.3 Ecoboost is plenty adequate with 87 octane. I've been and will experiment with higher octanes here an there as time and opportunity allows but so far, the performance difference and mpg hasn't been enough of a difference to justify the cost.

Have you considered that K&N (and others) uses oil in its filter cotton? Placing a source of oil upstream of the intake valves may not be the best idea. I'm not saying that it definitely would add to the carbon build up on the back of the valves but then again it might.

There is a lot of debate on cotton gauze filters on various issues. Oil contamination, allowing too much fine grit into the engine, so forth an so on. To each their own on what they decide to use. I'll stick with paper element filters.

I have more oil bath than paper but yeah, oem style replacement for me too.

As a child of the 60's... I used to be a "modify everything" guy. But that was when warranties were 12 months or 12,000 miles. Simple modifications could result in huge improvements.

Technology is such today that vehicles are pretty great right from the factory. 5 years or 60,000 mile warranties.

I've evolved into a "stock is good enough" guy for newer stuff..

I like the fact that I can do it myself (ASE master tech), saving some money, and still be covered under the warranty... They need to do this for the 2020 F150 3.5L Ecoboost.

Along with more reliable phasers, better quality timing chains, better oil pump drive system, and an oil pan with a real gasket.

Mine’s a lease... that sounds more like a you problem than a me problem.

"Too much horsepower is not quite enough" - some really smart guy back in the 60's. ;)

Which is why the original concept for a mini-van that Lee Iaccoca was the size of an Aerostar and had an option for a 460.

I just had the Ford Procal programmer installed on my 2019 Ranger. Bought it from Ford dealer and had them install it and it comes with three warranty. It also comes with a K&N air filter and you get any up dates also. You can change your trans. shifting and change your tire size for taller tires. still playing with it only put about 25 miles on it. So far i like it.
