I declined getting this maintenance package for my new truck since I figured it was probably a cheap way to get some extra bucks out of me at a substantial markup because they are the manufacturer (I'm very distrustful of most salespeople). However, after thinking about it for about a week, I'm thinking it might actually be a good idea. I think it's 5 years of all the regular servicing required for the vehicle. All I do is take the truck into the shop and they do everything for 5 years. Rotate, oil changes, filters, etc. and some other "costly" periodic services/maintenance. They were trying to sell me on it by suggesting I might void my warranty by getting other shops to do my maintenance (which is probably a load of bull if it's a reputable shop)

I suspect they might let me get it still, even tho I did decline it at the time of sale. I was just wondering if it was worth it? I can change my own oil, filters, and probably rotate my tires, so I didn't see any point in paying someone to do that apart from having it officially documented (helps resale value?). Any thoughts? Is it worth $1500?

Is it a maintenance package or extended warranty! The oil changes and tire rotation were free for lifetime, from my Ford dealer. My extended warranty was good for 5 years and I think 120,000 km.
My oil changes, I let Ford do up to 40,000km, then I switched to synthetic.
The $1,500 for extended warranty, paid for it's self.
Yeah, I feal same way about car sales people.

It's maintenance package. They also tried to sell me on the extended warranty, which I would have considered more seriously if I had spent more money on the vehicle and if it had all the potentially troublesome electronic options. I don't anticipate having any significant problems with a 2.3L manual, bare-bones model (crank windows, no air conditioning, etc.). I read that the Rangers have had issues with the automatic trans and the 4x4, but that the model I have is probably the most reliable and cost-efficient. And people say that if something big is going to go wrong, it's probably going to happen in the first year or two.

Spark plugs are good for 100k now. You have a 5 spd not an auto. Change your oil 2 times a year and that is only $500. I can't see you spending $1500 in maintenance on your truck over 5 years. Now if it included brakes it might be worth it but otherwise I would skip it. And don't worry about the "it will void your warranty" crap. I worked at dealers for many years and as long as you can prove that you do your oil changes every 5k that is all that matters.

One Sick Puppy, I guess it depends on what is covered, oil changes every 5000km, cooling system flush, tire rotation. does it cover burnt light bulbs, wippers, u-joints, ect. your right a plane jane not a lot of maintenance.
Figure out what parts will cost you, or what might cost you. Do the math.
Myself, I would rather have the money in my pocket, unitill it is time for service.

Thanks for the input. I think I made the right decision.
