ford explorer overhead in 87 ranger

i saw the tech library's post on the overhead console and i want to put it in my 87 ranger. it looked like the guy who wrote the article put it in a newer ranger and im just not to sure if it will fit/work in mine. has anyone else done this and what problems would i have doing this?
