looking at one for the wife, its an 01-02 4x4 3.0 v6 with some high miles but its cheap.

just wondering if anybody had any issues with higher mileage escapes.

one of my buddys has the newer ones, i really like it. but if i were going out to buy a newer suv, it would be a chevy trailblazer. my mom has one and i love it, real comfortable rig, and it even got 2hi, 4hi, 4lo, and auto lol

That engine and trans have been pretty well tested. It's a Taurus 3.0 DOHC and a CD4E trans that could be found in almost all Contours, Escorts, and Probes.

The biggest issue I see with that engine on a regular basis is the oil pan gaskets. They leak. All of them.

But it's a pretty well time tested setup. Just keep the oil changed and the tires rotated.

my mom has one with a 3.0, its a good vehicle.

I have a 2006 with a Duratec 2.3, CD4E, and front wheel drive. It has 107,000 miles, and we really enjoy it. My brother has 2005 with the 3.0, CD4E, and AWD. It has 105,000 miles on it. Neither of these Escapes have the oil leak problem. Last night, I did look at a 2001 (3.0, CD4E, and AWD) my buddy is doing a transmission in, and it was CAKED!

As adsm said, the CD4E is a proven performer in several vehicles. It's been around since the mid 90's, and can also be found in a couple of Mazda's like the 626. I think mine is the best shifting transmission I've ever driven. It downshifts when I want it to, etc. (wish my damn truck would).

How many miles does it have slo-vo?

My grandma has a 04 Tribute(same thing as the Escape) and its a good car overall.
besides a new battery its been very reliable.

My sister had an 05. Oil leak repaid twice and then.... It caught on fire twice...fuel line issues. We were so grateful that both times it was not in the garage. Both times happened after she had parked it!! Once at a shopping center, and the last time in their driveway after they got home. The hood was burned the first time and the motor got burnt up the last time it caught fire. I guess Ford never had a recall on this issue. Insurance paid it off so she was lucky about that. Not all of them are crap so don't worry about it.

I think you have some sort of hex. Everyone you know seems to have unusual issues with vehicles.

Come to think of it, my truck started getting the phantoms about the same time Cat started posting here.

My moms friend has an 08 3L fwd, he is the kiss of death with cars and his has been great to him.

Haaaa, you gay slay me!!!! I laughed so hard that snot came out my eyes!!!
It seems that as many people as we know they all have different cars and trucks. My wife's 03 Corolla has never had a single issue. Runs great and she gets 40 mpg. Very good. I never have had a single issues with my Jeeps or my 99 Ranger. Now, two buddies with Rangers had the worst luck. They both had trannny trouble with an 05 and a rear end on a 08 went out. Both were covered by warranty and they were happy about that. Both were only about 2 years old when they had them. They both have newer F150's now and have had no issues. A buddy and his wife had a F150 and a F250 both were 04's that he and his wife bought together had some bad luck with both of them. Trans going out at 30,000 on the F150 and a tranny going out at 60,000 on the F250. Warranty covered them both. He now has a 09 Dodge Ram and his wife has a 09 Spot Trac that has not had any issues today. I think it is luck of the draw, guys. Some people have no issues with their vehicals and some are just cursed the day they were born.....lol

My neighbor has an 06 with 3.0 and Awd and he really likes it. Good mpg on the highway, good in the snow and rides nice. The only issues he's had are a broken ABS tone ring on one of the axles, which I've heard is a fairly common issue, and an annoying exhaust leak where the pipe meets the manifold. Apparently there is no gasket there so I don't know what the fix for that would be.

Josh

Yeah, the tone rings are a big issue. Not hard to replace at all, but if you clean the rust off the lip of the axle they last longer.

As for the exhaust, the fix it orange RTV.
