Hi Guys,

I bought the 10-hole P71 wheels for both the Ranger and my Crown Vic project. I am not a fan of the dog dish hub caps, so I bought the 1998-2003 center caps instead. I think they look meaner. Anyways, I tried to install them on both vehicles and they don't fit. The stock '91 Ranger lugs are way too small and the stock '86 Crown Vic lugs fit, but are too loose for my liking. Did the 1998 Ranger use a different stud size (larger than 1/2")? Or were the lugs the same 1/2" thread and had a larger shank? Thank you for any input on this. :)

Are you talking these center caps? Mine are off a 2002 Police Interceptor that had the 16's.

I have a 1999 Ranger and they fit fine, but I did need to tweak the tabs a little. My Ranger originally had alloys so my lugs had chrome covers if that makes any difference. As far I know, all Rangers should have the same stud size, so lug nuts shouldn't have changed really.

I'm guessing you're trying to do this look? Those are the style rims my center caps came with.

Found that stang pic online to try and remember the PI rims, but the Ranger is mine lol.

Odd they wont fit though. The rims I'm using are actually off a 1988 Ranger so if 1st gen wheels work with P71 center caps on my 1999, then I don't really see why your set up shouldn't work. I had to tweak the tabs on the caps a bit but I figure it was mostly age. I was actually missing one and one had a torn tab, so I just brought one with to a local shop that refurbishes police cruisers (never know until you ask them lol) and got a pair for $20 so I could have a full set. The trim rings are original to the 1988 the rims came from. I'm using the lug nuts that came with my 1999 Ranger and everything seems snug after some 4 years.

I discovered that the '98 Rangers use a lugnut with a shoulder. The center caps clasp onto the shoulder. Real pain to get them back off. Here are pics of the one side of my Crown Vic project. It was raining pretty good when I took the pics.

Running the stock Crown Vic turbines on the Ranger until I do the rear Cobra disc swap.
