I answered with this in another thread and thought it may be worth its own thread;

It just so happens I was reading the back of the Champion spark plug catalog last night, serendipity or what.... OK, or what, my wife's on holidays, what can I say other than I'm really not that boring in person. Anyway, there was a blurb about DIS and wasted spark systems and how hard the spark traveling in reverse was on platinum plugs. IIRC the fix is double platinum plugs, something about less wear when both the giving and receiving ends on the spark plug are platinum.

Comments?

I never really read up on it, but I do know that platinums are supposed to burn hotter than regular coppers and last at least twice as long.

I put new copper plugs (Accel) in my F-150 when I got it. About 12k miles later, I was trying to figure out what was causing my poor fuel economy and decided to swap the plugs out again. On the advice of the (idiot) parts counter guy, I put Champion coppers in. I wasn't happy with the performance (gas mileage stayed the same but the truck didn't seem to pull as hard). Then I was talking with someone else who suggested that I try platinum plugs because they not only last longer but have a hotter spark. I saw little sense in going with a regular platinum (regular platinums only have a dot of platinum on one of the two contacts, double platinums have a dot on both), so I ordered up some double platinum Champions. Still didn't fix my fuel economy issue, but the truck ran noticeably better - it'll now get out of it's own way when I mash the gas.

IMHO you can't go wrong with original equipment.
