Ford 8.8 fell from 5' will it be ok?

I went to the junk yard yesterday to pick up my 8.8 from a Ford Explorer.

The guys had the explorer on the loader and just cut the rear out and let it fall on the ground from about 5 feet on the rotors on a cement floor...

The rotors look okay except for the little white spots this cement left...

I don't mind replacing those if I have to but I'm just worried about the wheel bearings and axle shafts being messed up....

Do you guys think that it will be okay??

I would think the force of an airborne truck landing would cause more stress than that but there is also a tire to buffer that impact. Check it over really good if you have any doubts on it make them replace it. I usually replace the axle bearings on a used axle as cheap insurance reguardless.

If it hit DIRECTLY on the axle shaft (vertical), you might have broken/cracked the cross pin in the axle.

Yea that's what i figured, but like you said without the tire its more of a shock on the metal... ill overhaul the rear when I gear it and put all new bearings seals ext... I figure it was just the weight of the rear and not a whole truck so it should be ok... the rotor didn't even dent... im just a worrier by nature and I poses over shit...

The pin that holds the axleshafts outward keeping the c clips in? It hit the ground as it sits in the truck but hit the passenger side first so it fell a little sideways. Passenger rotor hit cement first lol

My guess is its fine, best to check regardless since it is a jy axle.

Jy axle? How could I even check besides using it?

If the axle isn't replaced, you have one choice. Wheel the hell out of it and just find out. It's an 8.8. If this one is blasted it won't be that difficult to find another. Do what you normally would have for a JY axle, check/replace seals and bearings and move on.

New bearings and move on. I doubt anything is wrong with it. There is a lot more force on those shafts in normal driving with the weight of a truck on it.
