hey, first off im sure that someone might have already posted this and or thought of it but im looking for a quick responce from somebody.

For starters I have a 93 ford ranger, i just put a bunch of money in it and im looking to turn it in to a pre runner. it will done slowly, not a weekend build. the ranger has a 4.0 OVH with a auto in it, i could run this set up untill im done with the chassis and body work but anyways.

my dad has a 93 ford F150 it has a 5.0 or a 5.4 in it, the truck has about 140K on it and its mostly was used aroun the farm runnin to get parts and stuff... we dont have a huge farm. so it wasnt beat it just was a running truck mostly. my mom and dad have owned the truck since 94.5? and there were about 30K on it when they got it. the only really problems with it is that the body and chassis has seen its better days. being a Wisconsin truck with salt on the roads and dad sprayed some penetrating oil and thought it would stop the rust but it really just ate the truck up and caused more rust. i drive it every now and then and the thing has some good power and i think it if did a cold air intake and had it in the ranger it would be SWEET! i just want to know what you guys thing? i could get the stuff for next to nothing cause dad is about to get a new truck again and we've quit farming... we rent out all our land.

so do you think i would need a body lift? i was thinking about trimming the box down and then raising the bed of it and have the tank made and put in that gap so i could gain wheel travel and then put fiberglass fenders all around on it.

thanks for your in put if you dont think this is a good idea how would a 305( not the 302) in it sound?

The 5.4 didn't come out until late '97 in the F-150's (or anything for that matter) so your '93 would either have a 5.0 (302) or 5.8 (351W)

well to gain wheel travel you need bigger springs and beefier stuff cause things will be put under more strees on a prerunner. then add the extra weight of the big engine. and you can make any engine fit. 7.5L_STX has a 460 in his. but if you are gunna actually try putting in a 305 just go for a 350 or 383, as much as it hurts me to say it but the 350 fits in a ranger

they didnt make 5.4s then. and if u were gonna do a 305 why not just 350.

my bad, i thought it was a 5.4 its prolly a 5.0 then...

i would use a 305 cause i have one of those also. i just didnt know how well it would hurt...

if i run a FI 5.0 would i need to make more room by the fire wall and the heater thing? or would i be ok?

Without a bodylift, you'll have to notch the heaterbox. With a bodylift you may still have to; depends on how high/low you situate the motor. Firewall really depends on a mixture of if you use a bodylift or not and what size bellhousing. If you use the smaller 157tooth you may get away without it. And FYI if you use the 5.0 out of the F-Series and retain the FI, that intake will be too high. You'll have to swap for an aftermarket upper/lower or something like a mustang or explorer uper/lower.

well sooner or later the truck would be a pre runner.... i think the FI would be the nicest. i think i might pull the heater and AC on it cause i wont drive it in the winters....

How would the truck look if i did a body lift on the cab only so i would make room for the engine and trans. cause i plan on running fiber glass fiber glass.. I have a buddy that has a 302 that was from a F150 and he put a carb on it, it was FI but i would really rather not do that if i could help it... what about after market hoods have have a raise in that part?

how much does it cost do do the swap not including the engine wire or trans or T case.
